How to Reach Porto

  • By Plane

Participants in Hyceltec 2017 conference can arrive at Porto by plane in Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport (IATA: OPO), also known as Aeroporto do Porto or Aeroporto de Pedras Rubras.

The airport offers convenient flight connections with most European capitals and cities. There are also direct flights to other major cities, such as New York, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, etc. Additional connections via Lisbon are facilitated by an air bridge or by a train connection between the two cities.

Francisco Sá Carneiro airport is located about 15 km away from the city centre (roughly also the same distance for Conference Venue). The Metro line connects directly the Airport with the city centre, offering a fast and peaceful ride into the heart of the city. People who will stay in the recommended hotels should get out at the "Casa da Música" station or "Carolina Michaelis" station. For more information, check the Hotel Information page.
Bus line 601 also connects the airport to the city centre. You may buy the ticket on board.
This way of transportation is very convenient for people who will stay at the Conference Venue. Between 0:30 and 5:30 AM, you may take the bus line Z3, direction downtown.

There are also two shuttle services available (Airportshuttle and Goin Porto), one from the airport directly to the hotels, the other from the airport directly to the downtown.
Airportshuttle connects the airport to your hotel and vice-versa. The daily service operates from 04:30 AM until 07:30 PM. You should check the price at your travelling time. For booking the service, please visit the website.
Goin Porto connects the airport to the downtown and vice-versa. In case you choose this option, you should get out at Boavista round-about square, very near the recommended hotels (for your information, metro station "Casa da Música"is very close to Boavista round-about square). The daily service operates from 04:45 AM until 01:00 AM . You should check the price and the schedule at your travelling time. For booking the service, please visit the website

Finally, you may take a taxi, it costs around 25/30 €, but you should confirm with the táxi driver.

  • By Train
  • Porto has two major train stations, the "São Bento" (Saint Benedict) station, and the "Campanhã" station. Note that no extra train ticket is required to reach São Bento from Campanhã. There are regular connections Porto - Vigo, Porto - Madrid and Porto - Paris. In these 2 last options, you have to change the train. Other non-domestic destinations vary according to demand and season. Domestic trains are very frequent and usually on time. Schedules and prices can be checked in the official Portuguese Trains website. Both stations are directly connected to metro stations.

  • By Car

Porto is served by some major highways making the connection to Spain very easy: Porto - Aveiro - Salamanca; Porto - Braga - Tuy, Porto - Vila Real - Bragança/Zamora and Porto - Chaves - Verin.
