Dr. Pedro Gómez-Romero is at present Full Research Professor of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). He has been Group Leader of the NEO-Energy lab at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) (CSIC and Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology) since 2007.
He received the Master of Science degree from the Universidad de Valencia (Spain) and the degree of Ph.D. in Chemistry with Distinction from Georgetown University (U.S.A.) in 1987.
He was CSIC Researcher at the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona (ICMAB) between 1990 and 2007. He became Full Research Professor of CSIC in 2006. Between 1998 and 1999 he took a sabbatical leave at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (U.S.A.). He was coordinator of the Catalan Fuel Cell Network (Generalitat de Catalunya) between 2003 and 2005. He was Director of the Crystallography and Solid State Chemistry Department at ICMAB between 2004 and 2006 and Vice-director of MATGAS Technological Center between 2010 and 2013.
His main research interests and on-going projects are: (1) Materials for energy storage and conversion: Lithium batteries, supercapacitors; (2) Graphene; (3) Flow batteries; (4) Solar-thermal energy; (5) Nanofluids; (6) Hybrid organic-inorganic materials.
He has authored/co-authored more than 200 scientific publications. He is scientific editor of the books "Functional Hybrid Materials", P. Gómez-Romero, C. Sanchez (Eds.), Wiley-VCH 2004, and “Metal Oxides in Supercapacitors”, D. Dubal , P. Gomez-Romero (Eds.), Elsevier, 2017 (in preparation). He authored the following three award-winning popular science books: “Metaevolución. La Tierra en el espejo”, Ed. Celeste, 2001, “Un Planeta en busca de energía”, Ed. Síntesis, 2007, and “Creadores de futuro”, Ed. Bromera, 2016.
He supervised 12 Ph.D. Theses and 10 Master Theses, and hosted many European Students (in the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellowship Programme and bilateral programs) and several post-doctoral fellows.
He was the leading scientist of six national (Spanish) research projects, several international joint projects (involving laboratories in Germany, France, México, and Chile) and various EU projects (in the framework of the FP6 and FP7, Marie Skłodowska-Curie, STREP and Collaborative projects, including “Green Car”). In addition he has established several research contracts and collaborative projects with Spanish, French and U.S. Industries.
He is a member of the Materials Research Society, International Electrochemical Society (ISE), EuroScience, Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), and Asociación Española de Comunicación Científica. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Society since 2014.
He co-founded the Spin-off company “Earthdas Graphene Power Mobility SL” (2016).
